International students coming from outside of the EU to study at KIT are obliged to pay tuition fees in the amount of EUR 1,500.- per semester when newly enrolling for a degree program. When enrolling for a second degree program, tuition fees of EUR 650.- are charged per semester as of that date. Students who have enrolled in two or more degree programs at the same university or at several universities of the state (parallel studies) are obliged to pay tuition fees as of the start of the semester after successful completion of the first degree program.

Administrative Charge

For the students-related administrative services of the universities, students have to pay a charge of EUR 80.- per semester (previously EUR 70.- per semester) as of the 2025 summer semester. This payment is supposed to cover expenses for facilities and services that are offered to administrate and support the students, but are not directly associated with higher education activities.

In case of de-registration within one month upon the start of the lecturing period, the administrative charge will be reimbursed upon submission of the corresponding request on theStudents Portal (Studierendenportal). For information on the reimbursement of charges paid until the 2023/24 winter semester, contact theStudents Office (Studierendenservice).

Charge for the Studierendenwerk

At the moment, students are charged EUR 108.70 for the services of Studierendenwerk Karlsruhe. This amount also includes a liability insurance for the students. Having paid this charge, students have the right to use the Studierendenwerk’s psychological help services (Psychologische Beratungsstelle, PBS).

In case of de-registration, reimbursement of the charge for the Studierendenwerk must beapplied for in writing with the Studierendenwerk Karlsruhe subject to the deadlines given.

Charge for the Students Union

The Students Union or Student Government of KIT (Verfasste Studierendenschaft) is a statutory body under private law of KIT. Notwithstanding the responsibilities of KIT and Studierendenwerk Karlsruhe, the Students Union fulfils the tasks specified in  Article 65, par. 2 of the Act of Baden-Wuerttemberg on Universities and Colleges (LHG). To be able to fulfill its statutory tasks, the Students Union charges membership fees in the amount of presently EUR 12.- according to Article 65 a, par. 5, clauses 2 through 5 LHG and taking into account social concerns.

All enrolled students, including doctoral researchers and students on leave, are obliged to pay the charge for the Students Union. The payment obligation does not apply to students enrolled for a limited term only.

Fee for Attending Guest Student Programs

The fee for attending guest student programs presently is EUR 75.-.

Late Payment fine

Please note that KIT charges a late payment fine of EUR 15.- in case of delayed re-registration according to Article 2 of the Statutes on the Charging of Fees for Attending Guest Student Programs and Other Studies-related Services (Satzung ueber die Erhebung von Gebuehren für das Gasthoerer‐Studium und sonstige studienbezogene Dienstleistungen).
