International students with citizenship of a country outside of the EU need to pay a fee of 1,500€ per semester starting with the first semester of enrollment. Students seeking to complete a second degree, need to pay a fee of 650€ per semester, also starting with enrollment. Students who are enrolled in two or more study programs at the same time (parallel studies) also need to pay this fee for a second degree with the start of the semester after the successful completion of one of the study programs.

Administrative fee

Universities charge all enrolled students an administrative fee of 70.00€ per semester used to cover student-related administrative services. This fee is used to cover expenses in institutions handling administration and support for students which are not part of regular teaching operations.

In case of de-registrition within one month after start of lectures, administrative fees will be reimbursed upon request in the Studierendenportal. For reimbursement of fees from WT 2023/24 and earlier, please contact the Studierendenservice instead.

Studierendenwerk fee

The Studierendenwerk currently charges a fee of 108.70€. With payment of this fee, students are automatically covered under a general liability insurance; students are also eligible to use the services of the Psychotherapeutische Beratungsstelle (PBS, psychotherapeutic counseling services) at the Studierendenwerk.

Reimbursement of the Studierendenwerk fee in case of de-registration is possible upon request by using the application form of the Studierendenwerk Karlsruhe. All relevant deadlines need to be observed.

Studierendenschaft fee

The Verfasste Studierendenschaft of KIT (student body), as a legally responsible entity of public law and institution of KIT,  executes tasks according to §65 par. 2 LHG regardless of the responsibility of KIT and the Studierendenwerk Karlsruhe. According to the membership regulation fees of ST 2022 and in order to properly execute their legal tasks, the Studierendenschaft charges a fee of 10.50€ according to §65a par. 5 cl. 2 to 5 LHG in due consideration of any social concerns (as of WT 2024/25, the fee will be 12.00€).

Payment of this fees applies to all enrolled students, including doctoral candidates. Students taking a leave of absence are also required to pay the fee, temporarily enrolled students do not.

Guest auditor fee

Guest auditors currently pay a fee of 75.00€.

Late fee

Please note that in case of re-registration past the deadline, a late fee of 15.00€ applies according to §2 of the "Satzung ueber die Erhebung von Gebuehren für das Gasthoerer‐Studium und sonstige studienbezogene Dienstleistungen".
